Some Things Just Need to be Addressed
I will always keep things polite around here. I enjoy meeting new baseball fans. And I greatly appreciate all my readers. To those who comment, I will always do my best with a follow up on your blog.
With that said, if I burst your bubble, it needed it. If I don't burst your bubble, then perhaps you have a brain in your head.
Frankly, I'm tired of the Chipper bashers. Even more so, I'm tired of Braves fans who claim to not be Chipper bashers, yet they still have the audacity to propose his name in trade talk.
Have we forgotten who he is? What he has done for the organization. And just how generous he is? Obviously, many of us have forgotten these things.
Look, Chipper Jones is the most underrated pro baseball player. Period. Before it's all said and done, he will go down as one of the best third basemen to ever play the game-- if not the best. He is a switch hitter who is just as much of a threat on the right side as he is from the left side of the plate. He can hit for power, but he humbly chooses to hit for average because it's something the Braves have lacked in the past couple of years. Chipper takes an underpaid salary, only because he knows Atlanta is no longer rich, as they were when Ted Turner owned them. It was Chipper who humbly made the decision to move from third base to left field when the Braves acquired the overweight Vinny Castilla. Chipper Jones is one of the most selfless players in the game. Any team would take him at the drop of a hat. In fact, some of the more financially blessed organizations would pay BIG money to have him. Who can deny that he is just as good of a hitter as Albert Pujols, Manny Ramirez, and the rest of the greats. After all, he did win the batting title last year. And don't forget that he has been completely jipped of the Golden Glove Award for the past 10 years. Of course, anyone who plays in New York gets those types of awards rather easily. *Cough Cough* David Wright. You know, wherever the limelight is.
Here's Chipper's recent salaries:

You are so right. Not many people appreciate the things Chipper does for the Braves and all the money he has saved us. He is one of the few people in baseball that realize money isn't everything and playing the game is the best reward of all! And also what can't you do with 100million that you can't do with 200million? He has made more than that and has donated most of it and used a lot of it to create a baseball academy I believe. He is a good man and we shouldn't hear "Chipper" and "trade" in the same sentence unless you are going to say "We are never going to trade Chipper!"

There are few players like him in Baseball these days. You're right - Manny wouldn't have taken a pay cut (Dustin probably did to stay with the Red Sox - but another story!) I hope the Braves wise up and keep him. Good luck!

Personally, I've never gotten too worked up about people projecting Chipper trades because they just aren't going to happen. Love him when he's healthy, loathe him when he's on the shelf, people always want what they want when they want it... and it just doesn't work that way every time. The guy is a Hall of Famers in my book - take a glance at the article I put up a while back after talking to Dale Murphy:

you can count on Death, Taxes, and breathing air... the closest things after that are chipper and smoltz being braves for life. This goes back to my same belief about Glavine you give your Icon players that respect. The only way that anyone would pry chipper or smoltz away is if we were so bad that we needed to field a whole new team ( ala san diego) or if some idiot gave up 10 times more than what either player was worth. I dont see either happening. !!!AND YOU KNOW I AM A CHIPPER FAN !!!
As always I enjoy reading your blogs and the others comments. Thanks for providing a great forum to comment in and get feedback from. Scott

I hate how people say he has horrible injury issues. He had the foot thing which was a long ongoing injury. The hand injury was a freak accident. How many times does a player get flipped in the air over another player? Not often. The side issues need to be addressed for long term problems but he has been in the lineup just as much as most of the other big time stars. Chipper has taken so many for the team. He moved to third base for the Braves, then to left field, then back to third. As you mentioned, he has taken a ton of pay cuts so the Braves can attract free agents and get other guys their money. Class act by any means. If he gets traded then the franchise has hit an all time low. I also forgot to mention (like you said) how he has played gold glove defense but he doesn't get noticed as much since he doesn't play in New York, LA, or Boston.

I'm a big Chipper fan...you just don't find that type of Loyalty from baseball players anymore. I have to admit though I love great baseball even more. Chipper's groin injury slowed him down and at times last year and (I understand why) he would trot down the first base line instead of hussling it out. I don't like that even though I understand why. Guess I grew up in the Charlie hussle era and I love when major league players play their hardest "every" play.
Having said all that I hope Chipper finishes out his career with the Braves...he deserves it. He's been loyal to us (the fan) and we should be loyal to Chipper.
