Breaking News: Hampton to Houston.

Oh well. I was looking forward to having him back on an incentive-based deal for next season. I thought that since he and his lack of health totally robbed the Braves' bank account, he'd at least have the benevolence to make his services available to the Braves. Not so. Hampton stated after his final game with Atlanta, "I love it here. I'm sure there will be interest on both sides," referring to a possible deal with Houston. Hampton is in Houston waiting for the conclusion of a physical, which is usually the final step before a player and his interested club finalize a deal.

I may be wrong, but I thought that the Braves organization has interest in bringing the guy back? If that is true, Hampton is a tool and a half for not agreeing. If Wren decided that it wasn't in the club's best interest to bring him back, then I understand Hampton's decision to return to Houston. Maybe someone can help me out here.

Well, this gives Wren all the more "bump" to go get some hurlers, although I know it's not as easy as that.

Heck, maybe we're better off without the injury-prone lefty. I just have a feeling he's going to return to his old form. In 1999, he won 22 games for Houston.

So much for Hampton giving back to the club (the Braves) that had so much patience. . . .

Luke, sadly we learn that the game is all about the money. Far too few players put the game first any more.

Yeah....

I'm starting to really worry about the looks of the Braves' rotation for next season. With Hampton gone, this definitely dwindles Wren's options for a solid rotation. WE NEED PITCHING!

Just read about the Hampton deal. Sorry about that. I hear you on thin rotations. The Yankees have two starting pitchers at the moment - both coming off injuries. What happened to the Braves' interest in Peavy? Is that still a possibility?

Jane, Yes there is still a big chance Peavy will come here.
Luke, What's your opinion on the Vazquez trade? Good or bad deal?

Maybe you guys will try to get back into the Peavy deal. It looks like the Cubs are more intersted right now, but I've heard so many things I am very confused. I think the Braves were out of it, last I saw. But it sounds like you guys are going to get Javier Vasquez, so that should fill up a hole.

I really think the Braves are better off turning that page and starting anew. Vazquez is a good start, but it looks A.J. Burnett could be the big move... and soon. Got a couple new entries up if you want to read my full thoughts. For some reason they never seem to fit in a paragraph long comment.

Darion,

I think the Vazquez trade will be appreciate among Braves' Nation before it's all over. Your assessment on him (on your blog) pretty much sums up my thoughts.

He's a workhorse. He's no ace, by any means, but he'll be a heck of a lot more durable than Hampton. As Grant (http://grantmc.mlblogs.com) said, it's for the best that the Hampton page has been turned.

When Vazquez is on, he is one of the nastiest pitchers out there. He's got the stuff, but he'll give up a homerun or two... that's for sure.

Over all, I think he'll help us.
